Understanding Building Energy Efficiency across the US using BlocPower Data

The EIDC has partnered with BlocPower to make available the largest and most comprehensive building dataset available in the nation for building energy efficiency planning. This study examines building energy utilization in the United States through the collaboration between the Environmental Impact Data Collaborative (EIDC) and BlocPower. The Environmental Impact Data Collaborative (EIDC) enables researchers, community groups, and policymakers to analyze and visualize data in ways that help them make environmental policy more effective by offering a  platform that allows users to discover, access, merge, transform, analyze, visualize, and discuss hundreds of datasets with billions of rows of information. BlocPower is a Brooklyn based company that uses proprietary technology to analyze, finance and upgrade homes and buildings with the latest in energy-efficient, electric technology and appliances.

This study presents valuable data regarding the U.S. building stock, with a particular emphasis on energy usage intensity, energy potential, and the correlation between energy consumption and socioeconomic factors, including disadvantaged communities. The findings provide significant insights for policymakers, experts, and individuals interested in the field, enriching their understanding of the present condition of building energy utilization throughout the United States. This knowledge enables them to make informed decisions that contribute to the decarbonization of buildings, a crucial step in combating climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Decarbonizing buildings is vital because it helps to mitigate the environmental impact of the built environment, promotes sustainable practices, and supports the transition to a greener, more resilient future.
