MDI is Hiring: MDI Scholars Fall 2024

We are excited to announce a call for applications for the Fall 2024 cohort of the MDI Scholars Program. For full consideration, the application deadline is July 15, 2024 at 11:59pm Eastern. We have extended applications until Thursday, August 1st, 2024 at 11:59pm Eastern. We anticipate it will take approximately up to 1 hour to complete this application.

The Fall 2024 Cohort will work with researchers and practitioners to help advance knowledge on areas including forced migration, environmental science, social media, politics and polarization, and other fields. MDI Scholars will not only gain valuable research skills, but they will also engage in research that will help shape future research at the intersection of public policy, data science, and other disciplines. Students will be expected to document their research in a MDI research poster as part of a research showcase.

ELIGIBILITY: The Fall 2024 MDI Scholars Program is available to enrolled Georgetown University students. The Program provides motivated students across disciplines at Georgetown the opportunity to engage in scholarly research taking place at MDI. Coursework and/or previous research experience in computer science, data science, statistics, public policy and/or computational linguistics is preferred, but we encourage students of all majors to apply. Students should have a demonstrated interest and knowledge of working with large-scale data analysis and its implications in society.

Graduate Students: should have attended Georgetown University for at least 1 semester.

Undergraduate Students: should have attended Georgetown University for at least 1 academic year.

HIRING PROCEDURE AND CRITERIA: Instead of a cover letter, please answer a few questions and share more information through the online application. Please provide the following information to the best of your ability. MDI or faculty members will not be able to provide individual feedback on each application.

Please note Georgetown Graduate students — must complete: 1) formal application through Hoyaworks (a cover letter is NOT needed in Hoyaworks) and 2) the following application.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: During the academic year, MDI Scholars are expected to work up to 20 hours a week, depending on the project. Students can not exceed more than 20 hours for all Georgetown jobs during the academic term.

Position start date: Fall Kick-off (tentative) Week of Aug 23, 2024

Position termination: December 13, 2024 with the possibility of extension to the Spring Semester
