About MDI
Welcome to the Massive Data Institute (MDI) at Georgetown’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
MDI is an interdisciplinary research institute that connects experts across computer science, data science, public health, public policy, and social science to tackle societal scale issues and impact public policy in ways that improve people’s lives through responsible evidence-based research. Just as importantly, we provide experiential learning opportunities with faculty and external partners to help train the next generation of scholars and practitioners, exposing them to innovative methods for conducting interdisciplinary, data-centric research that facilitates policy making.
MDI draws on expertise from across Georgetown’s campus and beyond, including the social, natural, and computer science departments, and through strategic partnerships with organizations like the Beeck Center for Social Impact and Innovation, Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, the Institute for Social Research at University of Michigan, and the Pew Charitable Trust. The U.S. Census Bureau has designated MDI a Federal Statistical Research Data Center, one of only 23 in the nation.
We love data and are passionate about finding ways to use it to improve the world we live in. Connect with us – we want to find ways to work together and tackle the issues of the day. Thank you to our funders.
