OLD Advancing Research

The main goal of MDI is to advance research using traditional and innovative data sources to improve public policy outcomes. From pioneering cutting-edge computational methods to establishing best practices for secure and responsible use of data to answering different public policy questions, MDI works with researchers in government, academia, and industry to make progress on societal-scale issues.

MDI is supported with generous funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts, New Ventures Fund, Tableau Foundation, the Bezos Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research, and the State Department.

Our expertise can be divided into two different taxonomies: methodological areas of research and substantive areas of research. Here we highlight the areas where we have cross-disciplinary faculty working together on different research topics.
