Joint Statistical Meetings

MDI faculty joined thousands of statisticians, data scientists, and researchers at the annual Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Boston, MA this August.  As the largest gathering of statisticians in North America, JSM offers a chance to connect MDI’s work with a broad methodological community.

Joshua Snoke presented in the “Advancing Privacy and Usability: Applications for Data-Informed Decisionmaking in Society” session.  He shared how MDI is helping the Internal Revenue Service protect taxpayer privacy through MDI’s Secure Query System project.  MDI co-developed a noise infusion approach that permits the legal release of earnings statistics.  Beth Jarosz presented in the “Meeting the Moment: Communities in Action to Advance Federal Statistics” panel with former government executives.

JSM also allowed our team the opportunity to network with colleagues in the Government Statistics Section and Privacy and Confidentiality Interest Group.  We look forward to continuing to share our work and strengthen networks that value data integrity with the American Statistical Association community.
